Who We Are

And spend (in charity) of that with which We have provided you before death comes to one of you, and he says: "My Lord! If only You would give me respite for a little while (i.e. return to the worldly life), then I should give Sadaqah (i.e. Zakat) of my wealth, and be among the righteous [i.e. perform Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) and other good deeds]. Qur’an (63:10)

I welcome you to this website in the name of Allah who is most Gracious, most Merciful.

The objective of ‘Muslim Poverty Relief’ is two-fold: to provide relief from poverty and hardship and at the same time to advance the better understanding of Islam. We believe that it is important to have these joint objectives because there is some confusion on the role of charities that are Islamic in nature. Giving charity is one of our character building principles pleasing to Allah swt.

By the Grace of Allah ‘Muslim Poverty Relief’ has been set up as a charity that enshrines Islamic principles in the collection and distribution of aid. This means that all our methods of collection, banking and distribution are in accordance with the Qur’an and Ahadith. For example as dealing in interest is forbidden in Islam we do not directly deal in any form of interest i.e. we do not accept or use interest money in our projects nor do we take interest on our savings from the bank or take interest bearing loan.

We wish to assure you, if you are already a donor and if you are not yet a donor to the potential donor that we will not contaminate your hard earned halal money that you entrust us with in the form of Lillah, Sadaqa or Zakat with riba (interest). Please refer to the Essential Info (link to this page) page to learn more about this InshaAllah.

The payment of Zakat is an Islamic obligation and all those who donate their Zakat to ‘Muslim Poverty Relief’ do so on the trust of what we are and what we say to you. We take this trust very seriously as Allah swt says in Sura Al-Anfal ‘O you who believe, betray not the trust of Allah and the Messenger, nor misappropriate knowingly things entrusted to you.’8:27.

I hope that you will donate generously to help the needy and at the same time to advance the better understanding of Islam.

Finally, I end this message with a prayer to Allah swt that He enables us to keep firm on our Deen so that ‘Muslim Poverty Relief’ can distribute your trusts in the best possible way and obtain His blessings and Mercy –Ameen.
